Transportation planning is regional in scope because the transportation system cuts across governmental boundaries and because improvement programs require the cooperation and participation of all levels of government.

The planning area, called the Metropolitan Area Boundary (MAB), is shown on the map below. It includes all of the 2000 Census High Point Urbanized Area and the area anticipated to be urbanized by the year 2020.
